He is a celebrated artist who performs with the most distinguished orchestras, including the New York, Berlin, Munich and London Philharmonics. Mørk’s European appearances have included the BBC Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Royal Concertgebouw, Staatskapelle Dresden, and Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. In North American he has worked with the orchestras of Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Cleveland, amongst others. He recently performed over a two week period with the Philharmonia Orchestra, as part of their Elgar Festival, and he will also collaborate in a mini residency with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich - including two concertos and chamber music.

Truls Mørk is a committed performer of contemporary music and world premieres have included Krzysztof Penderecki's Concerto for Three Cellos with the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit, and Haflidi Hallgrimsson’s Cello Concerto (co-commissioned by the Oslo Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony and Scottish Chamber Orchestras). He premiered Matthias Pintscher’s ‘Reflections on Narcissus’ with Orchestre de Paris in February 2006, and further performances will take place with the BBC Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and on tour with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.

A dedicated chamber musician, Truls Mørk gives regular recitals around the globe. He arranged the highly successful ‘Sixty Degrees North’ series at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, featuring works by composers from Helsinki, St Petersburg, Stockholm and Oslo. Following the success of their US and Asian tours together, the trio of Gil Shaham, Truls Mørk, and Yefim Bronfman have toured North America, with appearances including New York, Chicago and Seattle.

Truls Mørk is a Virgin Classics artist and has recorded many of the great cello concertos. These include Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with Mariss Jansons and the Oslo Philharmonic; the Britten and Elgar Concertos with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle; and Dutilleux’s Concerto with Orchestra Philharmonique de Radio France and Myung-Whun Chung. His recording of the Shostakovich Concerti, with the London Philharmonic and Jansons was nominated for a Grammy, and in 2002 he received a Grammy Award for his Britten Cello Suites. 2005 saw the release of Mørk’s recording of the Schumann Cello Concerto with Paavo Järvi and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the complete Bach Suites.

Initially taught the cello by his father, Truls Mørk continued his studies with Frans Helmerson, Heinrich Schiff and Natalia Schakowskaya. His numerous awards to date include the Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition (1982) and the Naumburg Competition in New York (1986).
